Blogger Final Assessment

1.  What specific words/phrases demonstrate your writer’s voice? How do these words/phrases showcase your personality as a writer?
I usually try to write the way I would talk to people by typing like I am talking to someone instead of just writing an assignment. One way I demonstrate this is when I say, “Drop a comment down below,” in my review of Animal Farm. This shows my writer’s voice writing it more laid back than saying something like, ‘Leave a comment and I’ll respond.’ I also demonstrate my writing voice by saying what I actually think, such as when I say, “There were some points of the book that I had even forgotten that the characters were animals.” This shows that it is my voice because others could just say, ‘The animals acted like humans,’ or, ‘the animals are like humans.’ This also shows my writing voice by showing that I write what I think instead of being a dead writer and being boring such as some people who have no voice, and don’t use any writing techniques.

2.  What purposeful diction AND syntax choices did you make to enhance your writer’s voice? You must choose to discuss at least one diction AND one syntax technique from the list below. Make sure to include textual evidence from your post where you included the diction and syntax choices you discuss.

When I write, I like to describe my thoughts to the reader, such as if I am talking to them in real life. This is shown when I say, “There were some points of the book that I had even forgotten that the characters were animals.” This is describing the thought that you can get so lost in the book that you forget you are reading about animals talking, but they are talking and acting like people. I also like to vary my sentences in my writing. They vary from short, “Why do you think those who come into power become so corrupt,” to medium, “This is a very good read for a 140 page book that demonstrates monarchies, or even dictatorships very well,” to long, “I would recommend this book for most people because this book is a fantasy, but it makes it seem like all of the animals seem like they are people.” This makes it seem like I go more in-depth for some things rather than another. The sentence length also conveys importance of some things over another, such as the reason I would recommend the book to a question to evoke comments. The reason for recommendation is more important, so it is longer.

What I plan to read next

After finishing Animal Farm by George Orwell, I was impressed on how good of a book it was. The style of Orwell's writing made me want to read 1984. This is the other of the two books Orwell wrote that became famous and are used in schools as study tools. The second of his 2 famous books is Animal Farm, of course. This book was also recommended to me by Ms. Cohen when we were having our blogger conference and she told me it was her favorite book of all time. I don't know exactly what 1984 is about, but I've heard great things about it from Ms. Cohen, my mom, and other students who have read it. All I know about it is that it is a prediction from George Orwell about what the year 1984 will be like. What do you guys want to read? What is your favorite book and why? Leave a comment and let me know.

Animal Farm suspense

The way George Orwell built suspense in this book is by making the reader wander what the pigs will do. This started when Napoleon took power with dogs I thought would have been raised for good. Orwell introduced the dogs as minor characters at the beginning, but they turned to be very important to the story. The suspense of the pigs went all the way to the end of the book when the last line reads, "They looked from man to pig, and pig to man, but couldn't tell them apart." This shows that the corruption of the pigs has brought it back to the beginning of the story by saying the pigs have turned into rulers like the farmer was. Orwell also builds suspense by dragging some things out such as the hard work of one of the horses, who was devoted to the pigs, leading to him not being able to do any more work.

Animal Farm review

The book Animal Farm  is a very interesting book where George Orwell shows the slow process of a corrupt government taking over the place they rule. The rulers in this book are the pigs, which say they are the smartest of the animals. The book starts out with a very good pig named Snowball. He honors those who die, and follow the commandments that they have for their Animal Farm very well. After Snowball comes down from power, a very corrupt ruler named Napoleon comes into power. He trained guard dogs to protect him, and even executes those who do wrong by him. This is a very good read for a 140 page book that demonstrates monarchies, or even dictatorships very well.

I would give this book a 4.5 out of 5 for its realistic connections to the government, and the action and suspense that its contents create. I would recommend this book for most people because this book is a fantasy, but it makes it seem like all of the animals seem like they are people. There were some points of the book that I had even forgotten that the characters were animals. If you guys are looking for a short read for school, or just in your free time, I would recommend Animal Farm.

Why do you think those who come into power become so corrupt? Is it just the fact that they have the power to do things without question? Drop a comment down below and tell me what you guys think.

Animal Farm Vocab

The book Animal Farm is by George Orwell who wrote the book in 1945. The vocabulary in this book is old fashioned just for that reason. He uses long words that we wouldn't use today and words that aren't used in our everyday vocabulary. He doesn't use old vocab, but more polite vocab. When I say this, I mean replacing, "Do you want", with, "Would you like...?" The long words and old slang are hard to understand, but the words around it make it obvious. When you read an old book, you have to expect hard diction and be ready for it. If you're not, you probably won't understand the book.

Animal Farm Connections

The book Animal Farm is related to the real world very closely. Other than the fact that it uses animals instead of people, it is a good book to show how corrupt governments can form. A text to world connection I found was purely the fact that it shows the pigs' rise to power. First it starts off as the leader, Snowball, and then it  turns into a tyranny when the forceful leader, Napoleon, attacks with his vicious dogs. A text to self connection I made, and this is probably true for most kids is the fact that my parents rule the house. No, it isn't a tyranny, and you have a lot of rights, but it is more related to when Snowball was in power. And a text to text connection I made was to the book, The Hunger Games. The connection isn't the actions in the book, but how the capitol forcibly took the power, much like Napoleon took power from Snowball. From my description given, what connections can you guys come up with?

Animal Farm--The Best thing about my book

Animal Farm is a very interesting book in the fact that instead of people, the government is made up of animals. One thing I found humerous about this system of animals is that out of all of them, the pigs are the rulers. This is making fun of the fact that the people in the government will do anything to get ahead, using the term,"They are a bunch of pigs." The author is using satire in this fact to ridicule that fact by turning the leaders into pigs. He is also making fun of rulers because the pigs get the most food and water and also get the most comfortable beds. When the farmer came back to try and take his farm back from the animals, the leading pig, snowball, yelled,"Charge," but he didn't even fight. He is ridiculing a monarchy in all of thesen facts because, in a democracy, the people are strong, and the animals other than pigs are strong. These animals include horses, dogs, sheep, and other stronger animals. What do you think, with all the other animals being strong, will they try to overthrow the pigs?
